The following interdisciplinary centres do not recruit faculty members directly. An applicant interested in being affiliated with one of these centres must be recruited as a faculty member in one of the departments/centres listed above. Qualifications and Experience Required

Ph.D., with First Class or equivalent (in terms of grades, etc.) in the preceding degree, and a good academic record throughout

A minimum of three years teaching/research/professional experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing the Ph.D. In exceptional cases, candidates with less than requisite experience will also be considered.

Candidates should preferably be below 35 years of age.

Scale of pay: Level 12 with a basic pay of Rs. 1,01,500/-. After the completion of three years of service in Level 12, pay will be fixed in Level 13A1 with a basic pay of Rs. 1,31,400/-

Total minimum emoluments (including Dearness and Transport Allowance): Rs. 1,57,420 per month with house rent allowance, and Rs. 1,33,060 per month if staying on the campus.

Special Initiatives for New Faculty Members

IISc offers several attractive incentives for professional and personal development of new faculty members. These include:

  • To enable the new faculty members to get started with their research as quickly as possible, the required start-up research grants are provided immediately on joining. Start-up grants for basic office and laboratory furniture, and essential computing equipment are routinely provided. Substantial grants are also provided for equipment necessary to sustain a new faculty member’s research for a couple of years, during which time the expectation is that the faculty member would raise grants from various funding sources to continue their research. Start-up grants are provided based on a proposal submitted by the new faculty member, and a presentation before a committee. The proposal can also include a request for a travel grant of Rs. 2 lakhs for attending national or international conferences during the first year, and support for research staff during the first year.
  • Endowed Young Investigator (YI) awards providing a top-up salary of Rs. 25000 per month and a research grant of Rs. 3 Lakhs per year, are available, on a competitive basis, during the first three years. Each such YI award is for two years.
  • Well-established mechanisms are available for interaction with the industry, and other professional bodies, for research projects as well as for consultancy. At IISc, certain industry research projects can also have a component of personal remuneration. The Institute facilitates faculty entrepreneurship, as well as, faculty involvement in start-ups.
  • Several competitive travel grants are available for faculty members (as well as for students), supported by the Institution of Eminence grants and a grant from the Tata Trusts. These travel grants are for presenting papers in top tier conferences, prestigious workshops, and for collaborative research.

The above are in addition to the standard facilities such as:

  • Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of ₹ 3 Lakhs for every block period of 3 years (expected to be increased substantially on implementation of the 7th pay commission norms)
  • Accommodation in campus housing
  • Reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses of up to ₹ 2,50,000 (if relocating from abroad) or ₹ 1,25,000 (if relocating from within India) subject to the condition that they serve the Institute for a minimum period of two years.

Advertisement for the post of a Facility Manager in BioSystems Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru

The Centre for BioSystems Science and Engineering (BSSE) at the Indian Institute of Science offers a range of sophisticated instruments for mechanical characterization and imaging studies on biological cells. Users from many departments in IISc and from external institutions use these instruments. BSSE now seeks to recruit a Facility Manager, who will have the overall responsibility for the operation of the centre and whose duties will include:

  • Ensuring that items of equipment and support infrastructure in BSSE are maintained in good operating condition with high up-time through routine maintenance and liaison with suppliers and service providers
  • Participating in collaborative research activities with faculty members and students
  • Managing support staff involved in running equipment in BSSE
  • Providing technical support for periodic training programmes
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time

Essential qualifications: A doctoral degree in science or engineering OR master’s in science/engineering with at least 4 years of experience OR a bachelor’s degree in engineering with at least 8 years of relevant experience, hands-on familiarity with atomic force microscopes, confocal microscopy, and particle size analysis.

Desirable Qualifications: The candidate should have substantive demonstrated expertise in operating atomic force microscope for characterizing biological cells and tissues, fixed or live; using advanced microscopes including confocal microscopy; image processing related to microscopy; and characterizing particles used in bioengineering research. The candidate should also be familiar with SAP software with at least one year experience in the industry.

Remuneration and Benefits: A consolidated salary in the range of INR 50,000 to 90,000 per month, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Project Engineer-Cum-Estate Officer.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) invites applications for the position of Development Officer. The Development Officer will play a key role in the fundraising and alumni activities within the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs (ODAA). Apart from assisting the Chief Development Officer, the Development Officer is also expected to perform the following responsibilities:

Office of Development and Alumni Affairs (ODAA) Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) invites applications for the position of Alumni Relations Officer (ARO).

The ARO is expected to perform the following duties:

(I) Assist in developing a vibrant alumni-IISc ecosystem.

(II) Develop and maintain systems, databases, web portal and social media account to connect with alumni.

(III) Network with alumni in Bangalore and other cities to build a vibrant system focused on assisting IISc with development plans.

(IV) Organize alumni get-togethers, follow-up with alumni to develop partnerships with IISc.

Candidates from industry should have experience in interacting with a global customer base and those from academia should have experience in managing alumni relations in a University or Institute of national repute. This position requires travel within Bangalore and may require travel to other cities.

Other Terms and Conditions: The position is full-time, temporary and contractual. There is an opening for Project Assistant position in the Combustion Research and Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc. The specific area of research includes design, build and test a lab-scale single element rocket injector.

The position requires sound knowledge in design, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer analysis. Experience in handling thermo-fluidic experiments, and laser-based diagnostics will be preferred. The selected candidate will be expected to work with high pressure combustion test systems.

Desired Skills:
