 Ph.D.,with First Class or equivalent(interms of grades,etc.)in the preceding degree,and a good academic record throughout.

A minimum of three years teaching/research/professional experience, excluding the experience gained while pursuing Ph.D. Inexceptional cases,candidates with less than requisite experience will also be considered.

Candidates should preferably be below 35 years of age.

Scale of pay: Level 12 with a basic pay of Rs. 1,01,500/-. After the completion of three years of service in Level 12,pay will be fixed in Level 13A1 with a basic pay of Rs.1,31,400/-.

Total minimum emoluments (including Dearness and Transport Allowances): Rs. 1,67,570 per month with house rent allowance, and Rs. 1,43,210 per month if staying on the campus.

Special Initiatives for New Faculty Members

 IISc offers several attractive incentives for professional and personal development of new faculty members. These include:

  • To enable the new faculty members to get started with their research as quickly as possible, the required start-up research  grants  are  provided  immediately  on Start-up grants for basic office and laboratory furniture, and essential computing equipment are routinely provided. Substantial grants are also provided for equipmentnecessarytosustainanewfacultymember’sresearchforacoupleofyears, during which time the expectation is that the faculty member would raise grants from various funding sources to continue their research. Start-up grants are provided based on a proposal submitted by the new faculty member, and a presentation, if needed,  before a committee. The proposal can also include a request  for  a  travel  grant  of  Rs.  2  lakhs for attending national or international conferences during the first year, and support for research staff during the firs tyear.
  • Endowed Young Investigator (YI) awards providing a top-up salary of Rs. 25000 per month and are search grant of Rs.3Lakhs per year,are available,on a competitive basis,during the first three years. Each such YI award is for two years.
  • Well-established mechanisms are available for interaction with the industry, and other professional bodies, for research projects as well as for consultancy. At IISc, certain industry research projects can also have a component of personal remuneration. The Institute facilitates faculty entrepreneurship, as well as, faculty involvement in start-ups.
  • Several competitive travel grants are available for faculty members (as well as for students), supported by the Institution of Eminence grants and a grant from the Tata Trusts.These travel grants are for presenting papers intoptier conferences,prestigious workshops, and for collaborative research.

The above are in addition to the standard facilities such as:

  • Cumulative Professional Development Allowance (CPDA) of ₹ 3 Lakhs for every block period of 3years(expected to be increased substantiallyon implementation of the 7th pay commission norms)
  • Accommodation in campus housing
  • Reimbursement of travel and relocation expenses of up to ₹ 5,00,000 (if relocating from abroad) or ₹ 1,25,000 (if relocating from within India) subject to the condition that they serve the Institute for a minimum period of two years.

The department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science (ME@IISc) has a central facility for machining and prototyping and a few laboratories for mechanical characterization and testing. ME@IIScnow seeks to recruit a Facility Manager, who will have the overall responsibility for the operation of the aforementioned facility and laboratories as well assisting faculty with creating new facilities and coordinating collective research initiatives in the department, and whose duties include:

  • Ensuring that common equipment and research infrastructure in ME@IISc are maintained in good operating condition with high up-time through routine maintenance and liaison with suppliers and service providers.
  • Participating in collaborative research activities with faculty members and students

He/she will work closely with IISc faculty members and other institute administrators to stay up-to-date on program changes. He/She will also keep track of international student/scholar applications and help in answering queries from prospective international students, who wish to apply for various academic/research programs at IISc.

The advisor will be responsible for providing educational guidance and administrative assistance to international students/scholars by planning schedules, recommending courses and determining appropriate education solutions for different types of students/scholars. He/she must also follow through and track the advancement of students/scholars. Additionally, he/she must provide case management to students/scholars, who do not meet local educational requirements and provide assistance for at-risk students. Since the work involves closely working with a variety of students/scholars, he/she must be willing to help others and have strong communication skills.

The advisor needs to help maintain students/scholars legal immigration status, provide appropriate documentation and coordinate between various units of IISc including Foreigners Regional Registration. The project manager should be good at multi-tasking and have to handle multiple assignments at the same time. Also, the role will demand managing ODAA personnel including administrative staff and any other duties as assigned by the Chair, ODAA from time to time.

The Centre for BioSystems Science and Engineering (BSSE) at the Indian Institute of Science offers a range of sophisticated instruments for mechanical characterization and imaging studies on biological cells. Users from many departments in IISc and from external institutions use these instruments. BSSE now seeks to recruit a Facility Manager, who will have the overall responsibility for the operation of the centre and whose duties will include:

There is an opening for Project Assistant position in the Combustion Research and Advanced Diagnostics Laboratory at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, IISc. The specific area of research includes design, build and test a lab-scale single element rocket injector.
