Prof Mahesh Kakde wins Ramanujan Prize 2026

Congratulations to Prof Mahesh Kakde on being awarded the Ramanujan Prize 2026 for his contributions to algebraic number theory!

The Ramanujan Prize for young mathematicians from developing countries has been awarded annually since 2005 and is administered jointly by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics and the International Mathematical Union. This award recognises Prof Kakde’s fundamental results on noncommutative Iwasawa theory, as well as his outstanding work on the Gross-Stark and Brumer-Stark conjectures, with implications for Hilbert’s 12th problem, one of the famous 23 unsolved problems listed by David Hilbert in 1900.
