
Dr. Anupma Thakur has been conferred the ECSI Young Scientist Award 2026 by the Electrochemical Society of India (ECSI) in recognition of her outstanding contributions to electrochemical interfaces, energy materials, and sustainable electrochemical systems. The award was presented on 28th August 2026 during the National Symposium on Electrochemical Science and Technology (NSEST 2026), held at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, with the ceremony held at the J. N. Tata Auditorium.

Dr. Anupma Thakur is honored for her outstanding early-career contributions to two-dimensional nanomaterials, MXenes, photoelectrochemistry, electrocatalysis, and advanced energy technologies. Her research focuses on the compositional tailoring and structure–property relationships of advanced nanomaterials, particularly two-dimensional MXenes and their parent materials. By investigating how composition, atomic structure, surface chemistry, and morphology influence functional properties, her work addresses fundamental questions important to the rational design of next-generation materials. A major strength of her research is its connection between materials chemistry and electrochemical applications. MXenes and related two-dimensional materials offer significant opportunities in energy conversion and storage, catalysis, sensing, and other emerging technologies because of their tunable electronic, structural, and surface properties.
Her scientific contributions also encompass photo/electrocatalytic systems and advanced energy applications. Such research is important for developing efficient materials for sustainable hydrogen production, energy conversion, and other clean-technology applications. The integration of advanced materials synthesis with electrochemical understanding provides a strong foundation for translating fundamental discoveries into functional technologies. Dr. Thakur’s engagement with the wider scientific community and her contributions to the understanding of composition–structure–property relationships in MXenes reflect a research programme with both fundamental depth and future technological potential.
