Abstract: We often imagine wildlife as something that exists in distant forests and national parks. Yet an astonishing diversity of life thrives much closer to home—in our gardens, homes, campuses, and neighbourhood parks. While some of these species are genuinely rare, many more remain unnoticed simply because we rarely stop to look. In this talk, wildlife macro photographer Raghuram Annadana shares stories of some of India’s most fascinating yet overlooked creatures—from tiny spiders and insects to reptiles and other small animals that inhabit our everyday surroundings. Through striking images and personal field experiences, he explores the remarkable adaptations, behaviours, and ecological roles of these organisms, revealing a hidden world that exists alongside us. The talk is an invitation to slow down, observe more closely, and discover that extraordinary wildlife is not always found in distant wilderness—it is often hidden in plain sight, waiting to be noticed, and is every bit as beautiful and fascinating as the wildlife we travel far to see.
