IISc Awards for Excellence in Teaching 2025


To commemorate Teacher’s Day, several faculty members received the IISc Awards for Excellence in Teaching 2025 in recognition of their efforts towards fostering a meaningful and engaging learning environment for students. A special programme was held at the Faculty Hall on 8 September 2025 to felicitate the awardees. The awardees for 2025 are:

Anoop Thomas (Assistant Professor, Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry)
Debdeep Sarkar (Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Communication Engineering)
Vaibhav Katewa (Assistant Professor, Robert Bosch Center for Cyber Physical Systems)
Abhik Narayan Chaudhury (Associate Professor, Department of Materials Engineering)
Utpal Tatu (Professor, Department of Biochemistry)
L Umanand (Professor, Department of Electronic Systems Engineering)

As part of the programme, a panel discussion was also held with the awardees. The panelists included Ananth Govind Rajan, Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, one of the recipients of the Priti Shankar Teaching Award this past year. The discussion explored a range of topics, including the ever-evolving role of teaching in higher education, innovative pedagogical approaches, reflections on the use of AI among students, and more.
