Debasis Das, Associate Professor in the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry at IISc, has been awarded the 2025 ACS Catalysis Lectureship for the Advancement of Catalytic Science in Biocatalysis. The award recognises his team’s pioneering work in elucidating a hydrocarbon-producing metalloenzyme and exploring its potential for green energy applications.
Das’s research is highly interdisciplinary, integrating chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology to investigate the function, kinetics, mechanisms, and reaction intermediates of several poorly understood enzymes. The overarching goal of his work is to engineer and harness these enzymes for sustainable energy solutions and therapeutic applications.
He will be formally honoured for his award-winning research at an upcoming symposium, with details to be announced.
