Instructions for Online Admissions Portal
These instructions apply to candidates applying for Postgraduate Programmes and Research Programmes through the Online Admissions Portal.
- The candidates for Post-graduate (PG) Course Programmes and Post-graduate (PG) Research Programswill need to fill the online application and fee payment through the Online Admissions Portal.
- For Under-Graduate programmes, please visit this websiteand follow the instructions provided therein.
- Candidates applying for M.Tech. (Online) programme may visit the IKEN website to check the eligibility.
- OCI and International candidates may visit the Office of International Relations website.
- NOTE:Applicants can submit only one application per programme. Please note that Multiple submission of application for the same programme (using alternate e-mail id for registration etc.) is not permitted and if found, the application will not be considered for the admission process. However, there is no restriction in applying for more than one programme (For eg, you can submit an application for M Tech, one application for M Mgt and one for Research programme etc.,).
Registration on the Online Admissions Portal
- Visit the online admissions portal at https://admissions.iisc.ac.in, and click on the Start Application PG/PhD.
- Students must first register on the Admissions Portal by clicking on “Sign Up”.
- Register by providing your name, date of birth, mobile number, and email address.
- Make sure that your name and date of birth match your degree certificate and 10th certificate respectively. Please note that these details cannotbe modified later.
- Make sure you have an active email ID. Changing the email address will not be entertained during the admission process. All communications regarding admissions will be sent to the registered email address.
- Once you register, you will receive an email from admission@auto.iisc.ac.in with a link to confirm your email address. Once you click on that link, your email ID will be verified. You need to verify your mobile number using the OTP sent to the registered mobile number. You can now log into the portal to submit your application.
- NOTE: Sometimes, this email may have been placed in your junk/spam email folder. Please check that folder in case you have not received the confirmation email. Please make sure that your email client does not flag emails from the @iisc.ac.inand @auto.iisc.ac.in domains as junk/spam. You will receive several communications from this email domain during the admissions application process.
Information Required before Starting your application
- You will need the following details and documents before starting the application. Please make sure to keep all these ready before starting the application. You can complete the application across multiple sessions, before the application deadline. But you will need to fill in all required fields in one page before you can save a session. For specific details of these, see the instructions below.
- Passport photo image file. The file formats allowed are .jpg and .jpeg files, and the file size should be below 500KB.
- Signature image file. The file formats allowed are .jpg and .jpeg files, and the file size should be below 500KB.
- Details of your 10th and 12th standard schooling, marks/ grades and key subjects.
- Details of all under-graduate degrees, post-graduate degrees, and diplomas that you have completed, including marks for each semester/term, cumulative marks, and key subjects you have taken.
- ABC ID/ APAAR ID
- Details of all national entrance tests (NET’s) that you have taken, including registration number/ roll number, rank (if available), score, paper, etc., as relevant. NET’s include GATE, JAM, JEST, GPAT, NET JRF, Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF, UGC-NET for JRF, DBT JRF, ICMR JRF, JGEEBILS, NBHM, INSPIRE, NEET-PG, INI-CET, etc.,
- NOTE: Candidates applying through Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF and UGC NET for JRF must ensure that they hold the ‘JRF’ fellowship. Candidates who have qualified only for Lectureship (LS) / qualified under Category-2 or Category-3, are not eligible to apply for the Research Programme at IISc.
- NOTE: The results for some of the recent National Entrance Tests, such as GATE and JAM, may not be available at the time of submitting the IISc admissions application. You must enter the available details of these exams, such as your roll number, paper, etc., in the application, but you may leave the score/rank/results blank. You will have the option to update just your national entrance results in the application from the main “Application Status” page. You must make this update within 3 days of the results being declared.
- Details of research publications that you have co-authored, conferences and workshops you have attended, and any other awards and certifications you have secured.
Personal Details
- All PG/ PhD applications share the same Personal Details page. Please fill the details carefully and accurately.
- IMPORTANT: The details you enter in this page is common across all your applications. Making a change to personal details in one application form will change these details in all your other applications also, including ones you have already submitted.
- When you start filling a new application form for a degree program, the personal details information you have filled for any other degree application in this portal will be automatically filled in.
- The name, mobile number, and email address fields etc. cannot be changed. These are taken from information given at the time of signing up.
- Fill in your gender, date of birth, address, nationality and parents’ details.
- Fill in your category and sub-category information. Fill in other relevant details including state of domicile, ABC ID/APAAR ID etc.,
- Click on “Next” to save the Personal Details. If the page does not save and go to the next page, please check and ensure that all required fields (marked with a red asterisk *) have been filled.
Educational Details and Mode of Entry
Educational Details
Applicants must provide complete academic details starting from SSLC/Class 10 onwards. The portal permits entry of multiple UG/PG degrees; therefore, all qualifications must be entered accurately in the respective sections.
If results for any semester are awaited, the corresponding fields may be left blank. Applications will be scrutinized strictly based on the information submitted at the time of application. No updates or modifications to educational details will be permitted once the application is submitted.
Mode of Entry(MoE)
This section captures the details of the National Entrance Test/Mode of Entry.
Details under certain MoEs such as CFTI and ME/M.Tech qualified etc. will be automatically captured. For other modes (GATE, JAM, JEST, NET JRF, etc.), applicants must enter the required information.
NOTE:
The GATE/GPAT/NET JRF or any other National Entrance Test certificate/score card must be valid as on the date of commencement of classes for the academic session.
Applicants applying through the NET JRF mode must be qualified for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Candidates qualified only for Lectureship (LS)/Assistant Professorship or under Category-2/Category-3 are not eligible to apply for Research Programmes at IISc. However, applicants selected under NFSC, NFST, or NFOBC schemes are eligible to apply for the PhD programme.
Applicants applying through the INSPIRE mode must possess a valid provisional INSPIRE offer issued by DST at the time of the interview for consideration at Level II of the selection process.
NOTE: If the results of certain National Entrance Tests (e.g., GATE, JAM, etc.) are not available at the time of application submission, applicants must provide the available details such as roll number and paper, while the score/rank/result fields may be left blank. After submission, applicants may update only their National Entrance Test results through the Applicant Dashboard within three days of the declaration of results. Failure to update within the stipulated period will render the application ineligible under the respective mode of entry. No requests or representations will be entertained after the deadline.
The results of applicable national level examination/mode of entry should be available/declared atleast 15 days prior to the commencement of the respective interviews (if applicable) else the said mode of entry/national level examination will not be considered for further admission process. No representation/ correspondence on the matter will be entertained.
NOTE for M.Tech/ M.Des applicants: The Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP) serves as a centralized platform for candidates to select their preferred admission offer for M.Tech./M.Des. programmes (through GATE) across participating institutions, including IISc and IITs. Admission offers for all eligible M.Tech. programmes and M.Des. (through GATE) at IISc will be made through COAP. Candidates must register on the COAP portal.
The COAP ID needs to be updated in the application form once it available. You may either provide it during application form at the time of filling the details or you may update it post submission. The option to update the COAP ID will be available on the Applicant dashboard.
M.Des. candidates selected through CEED/CAT will receive their admission offer letters through the IISc Admissions Portal. They may download the offer letter and complete the fee payment to confirm admission. Registration on COAP is not required for such candidates. No separate communication will be sent by post.

Details of Awards & Achievements
- Applicants may optionally provide details of additional academic achievements. Each section is limited to 1500 characters.
- Under Research Publications, list all papers for which you are a co-author. Include the title, names of authors, journal/conference/workshop name, year of publication, and a URL link, if available.
- Under Conferences and Workshops Attended, provide details of technical events attended, including the title of the event, organizing institution, venue/location, and whether a paper was presented.
- Under Awards & Certifications, list any notable awards, recognitions, achievements, or technical certifications received.
- Click ‘Next’ button to save your entry and move to the next page.
Employment Details
- If you intend to apply for the ERP, Sponsored, or M.Tech (Online) programme, select “Yes” and provide the details of your organization, including job roles, job description, duration of employment, and previous employment history etc.
- If you are not sponsored by an organization but wish to furnish your employment details/ work experience, select “No” and enter the relevant information.
- If you do not have any work experience, you may skip this section and proceed to the next page to select your programme preferences.
Choose Preference
- You may apply for both Course and Research programmes on this page. Select the relevant disciplines using the search option and add them to your list of preferences. The system permits selection of multiple disciplines across different degree programmes on the same screen.
- After adding the required choices, confirm the preference order for each degree. Applicants may select a maximum of three preferences for Regular programmes, one preference for ERP/ Sponsored M.Tech/ M.Des programmes, and two preferences for M.Tech (Online) programmes.
- Please exercise caution while selecting preferences, as requests for changes will not be entertained after submission of the application. Although the system may allow more entries in the list, only the first three valid preferences will be considered.
- If you wish to modify the order, you may drag and rearrange the preferences before clicking the “Confirm Preference” button.
- Once confirmed, click “Next” to review the application form.
NOTE: Ensure that you meet the eligibility criteria for each selected preference. The eligibility details are available on the Admissions website.
Review the Application form & Fee Payment
- This section enables you to review all the details entered across different sections of the application. If any corrections are required, you may use the edit option to update the information.
- After verifying the details, upload your passport-size photograph and signature using the upload option.
- You may then provide consent to the declaration and proceed with the fee payment. A draft copy of the application form may be downloaded for reference. However, please note that the draft form is for reference only and will not be accepted for admission purposes.
- You may download the final application form from the dashboard after completing the fee payment.
Application Fees
- The fees payable for each programme are as follows:
- General / OBC / EWS: Rs. 800
- SC / ST / PwD: Rs. 400
- ERP candidates (all categories): Rs. 2000
- Sponsored candidates from government and PSU: Rs. 800
- Online payment can be made through net-banking/debit/credit card/UPI.
- The fee payment must be completed before the application deadline to be considered for further admission process. It may be noted that mere submission of the form and/or payment of the application fee alone will not confer the right to the candidate for further admission process.
Updating National Entrance Test Results after Application Submission
- The results of certain National Entrance Tests (e.g., GATE, JAM, etc.) may not be available at the time of application submission. Applicants are required to provide the available details, such as roll number/ paper, while the score/rank/result fields may be left blank.
- After submitting the application, applicants will be permitted to update only their National Entrance Test results through the Applicant Dashboard. The update must be completed within three days of the declaration of results for consideration during evaluation. Failure to update the details within the stipulated time will render the application ineligible under the respective mode of entry. No requests or representations for updates will be entertained after the deadline.
