Umesh Varshney obtained his PhD from the University of Calgary, Canada in 1985, and then continued there as an AHFMR fellow. He moved to MIT in 1988 and joined IISc in 1991. He teaches molecular biology and studies protein synthesis and DNA repair in eubacteria. He is a fellow of INSA (New Delhi), IAS (Bengaluru) and the NAS, India (Allahabad), and a recipient of the JC Bose Fellowship and various other awards including the SS Bhatnagar Prize.

Prof. P.K. Das

P. K. Das had his early education in chemistry from the Ramakrishna Mission College, Narendrapur and IIT Kanpur after which he went to Columbia University, USA to get a Ph. D. with Prof. Richard Bersohn. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1984 and went to work with Prof. John Charles Polanyi in the Chemistry Department of the University of Toronto. In 1986, he returned to the country and joined the Department of Inorganic and Physical Chemistry of the Indian Institute of Science where he is currently a Professor. Prof. P. K. Das is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Green Nanotechnology.He works in the general area of experimental physical chemistry, and, specifically, in the area of laser spectroscopy, dynamics and nonlinear optics of small molecules, large biological molecules and nanoparticles.

Prof. Y Narahari

Y. Narahari is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Automation. The focus of his current research is to explore problems at the interface of computer science and game theory. His recent publications include a textbook “Game Theory and Mechanism Design” brought out by the IISc Press and the World Scientific Publishing Company in 2014. He is an elected Fellow of: IEEE, Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the National Academy of Sciences India. He is a J.C. Bose National Fellow.

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan

Govindan Rangarajan obtained his PhD from the University of Maryland, College Park, USA. He then worked at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab, University of California, Berkeley before returning to India in 1992. He is currently a Professor of Mathematics and Chairman, Division of Interdisciplinary Research at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. His research interests include nonlinear dynamics and chaos, time series analysis and computational neuroscience. He is a J. C. Bose National Fellow, a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. He was knighted by the Government of France: Knight (Chevalier) of the Order of Palms. He was also a Homi Bhabha Fellow.

Prof. Vikram Jayaram

Vikram Jayaram obtained a Bachelor’s from Cambridge University and a PhD from Stanford University. He worked at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and the University of California, Santa Barbara before joining IISc in 1990, where he is currently Professor in the Department of Materials Engineering. His research interests lie in the area of thin film mechanical behaviour, ceramic processing and tribology. He is a JC Bose National Fellow and a fellow of all the Indian science and engineering academies and of the Indian Institute of Metals and the American Ceramic Society.

Prof. Rahul Pandit

Rahul Pandit, Professor of Physics and Chairman of the Division of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at the Institute, obtained his MS in Physics from IIT Delhi and his PhD at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is on the C3 Commission for Statistical Physics of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics and has been a Divisional Associate Editor for Physical Review Letters. He is a recipient of the S.S. Bhatnagar and Meghnad Saha Awards, and of the J.C. Bose Fellowship. He is a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Science Academy, and The World Academy of Sciences.
He works on the Physics and Computational Science of Turbulence, in Fluids, Plasmas, Superfluids, and Complex Fluids, Electrical-wave Turbulence and Cardiac Arrhythmias, and Cold-atom Systems.
